Since 2015, Sig Sauer has been working on developing the best weapon system on earth. Drawing inspiration from the pillars that build the foundation of the family of modern platforms, the MCX is an ever evolving force to be reckoned with. With features of the classic Stoner and Sullivan Armalite rifles, the AR-15 and AR-18, Sig adds their own years of research and development. With variants serving around the world with military and law enforcement as well as discerning members of the shooting public, the MCX is here to stay. Through continuing innovation, exhaustive testing, and feedback from real world customer and war fighters, the patrol version of the battle tested MCX series is available to law enforcement and civilians.
The MCX VIRTUS Patrol from SIG SAUER is engineered for adaptability, accuracy, and longevity. Cold hammer-forged 16" barrels are user-changeable and available in 5.56 NATO and 300 BLK, offering the utmost in mission-specific flexibility. SIG's internal recoil system provides a more comfortable recoil and a compact platform. The MCX VIRTUS features the new Matchlite Duo trigger for a crisp, clean break. Free-floating M-LOK handguards are can be changed-out if using a shorter barrel. Ambidextrous, AR-style controls and a folding and adjustable stock enable the MCX VIRTUS Patrol to be tailored to any shooter. This rifle is featured in Black and built with the highest-quality components. The MCX Virtus is the evolution of the M4 platform.
And, did we mention: This is a fun gun to shoot. The team at Charlie's fell in love with the foldable and collapsible stock, and the idea of making this a shorter concealable rifle.
Manufacturer's Part Number: WRMCX-16B-TAP-P (law enforcement)
A key feature of the Virtus is configurability. While this model is 5.56 NATO and 16", barrels, calibers and forearms are interchangeable. Think of the MCX like a ballistic Erector set. It features different parts and pieces that can be swapped in and latched on to change the profile and capabilities of the whole. From handguards to pistol grips and buttstocks to barrels, the MCX Virtus was also designed for multi-caliber use by means of interchangeable barrel assemblies in 5.56 NATO and .300 Blackout.
The locking lugs of the MCX Virtus are conically designed to ensure cleaner cycling and increased service life. The stock (foldable to the left) with five locking positions has been improved, thus reducing the firearm’s length from the previous MCX model, and also allowing the firearm to be adjusted and leaving it ready to fire even in folded-in position. Multiple QD sling attach points make this rifle perfect for the operator.
Another important feature that makes the arrangement possible is the short-stroke piston system in the MCX. Most Black Rifle enthusiasts are familiar with Eugene Stoner’s direct impingement (DI) gas system seen in many AR-15s. SIG Sauer’s approach did away with the gas tube and the bolt assembly’s gas key and incorporated a valve to regulate the gas bled from the barrel to actuate a piston and operating rod, which is linked to the bolt assembly. Dual recoil springs run nearly the length of the upper receiver, above the operating assembly, which eliminates the need for a traditional buffer-tube assembly shrouded by a stock. Benefits of SIG Sauer’s approach to the MCX design included the ability to tune the gun’s operation by way of a two-position gas valve. It’s not a major concern with 5.56 ammunition, but an adjustable gas system is incredibly handy for ensuring reliable cycling with the wide assortment of sub- and supersonic .300 BLK ammo, and the addition of suppressors. Losing the buffer extension also opened the door to more stock options such as side-folders without losing the ability to cycle the gun. SIG Sauer’s engineers even thought to incorporate a rail interface at the rear of the lower receiver for attaching stocks or arm braces for popular pistol variants.

THIS IS A SERIALIZED FIREARM. It must ship to a Federal Firearms License holder. No civilian exceptions.
Buying and shipping through Charlie’s is easy, but there is some information you need to know. Only a federally licensed firearms dealer may receive a firearm or federally regulated serialized item (like a receiver or suppressor). We cannot ship these items directly to you. Please follow these steps to process your transaction:
1) Check your state laws to make sure the federally regulated item you want to purchase is legal in your state. Your FFL dealer should be able to give you all of the necessary information regarding your state specific laws. But, if we ship to your FFL, and there is a legal issue, we cannot accept a return. So please make sure that you know and follow your local and state laws.
2) A quick google search will show you what Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealers are in your area. When you are ready to purchase, contact the FFL dealer you would like to use and get their shipping address. During the check-out, put YOUR address in the “billing” section and the FFL DEALER’S address in the “shipping” section. If you don’t know your FFLs address, that’s okay. You can send the information later.
3) After check out, make sure to contact your FFL dealer to ensure they will receive your shipment for you (most do this for a small fee, but you should always double check).
4) Have your dealer send us a copy of their FFL to FFL@CharliesCustomClones.com. Charlie’s does not reach to your FFL (MAKE THEM EARN THEIR FEE!!!)
5) Be patient! In order to ensure we remain compliant with all federal laws, our compliance department is kept separate from our sales and operations team. Please allow a few days for our compliance officer to verify all of your dealer’s documents and ensure all federal laws are being observed. You should hear from our compliance department within 3-4 business days. If not, feel free to reach out for a status update.
That’s it! We try to make this process as simple as possible for our customers, but if you are unfamiliar the process or have any other questions, please visit our How to Buy a Firearm page for more details.
