KAC SR-15 Lower Receiver, Complete Virgin Assembly – FDE / Coyote Brown

The KAC SR-15 lower receiver has long been one of the more desirable AR-pattern receiver assemblies because Knight’s did considerably more than add an ambidextrous safety. The SR-15 IWS lower integrates KAC’s ambidextrous magazine and bolt-release controls, proprietary control hardware, and KAC trigger guard into a receiver designed around the same ergonomics that helped distinguish the SR-15 from a conventional AR-15.

Charlie’s starts with a genuine Knight’s Armament SR-15 lower receiver, applies an FDE Cerakote finish, and builds it as a complete virgin receiver assembly using KAC ambidextrous lower components. We replace the standard trigger and furniture with a Geissele two-stage trigger, B5 Systems Enhanced SOPMOD stock, and B5 pistol grip in Coyote Brown. The result retains the important KAC hardware while giving the lower a subdued two-tone FDE/Coyote Brown appearance.

Highlights

  • Genuine KAC SR-15 Receiver — The real Knight’s Armament foundation
  • Charlie’s FDE Cerakote — A purpose-built FDE configuration
  • KAC Ambidextrous Controls — KAC selector, magazine-release and bolt-release architecture retained.
  • Geissele Two-Stage Trigger — A defined first stage and predictable second-stage break for a versatile fighting or precision carbine.
  • B5 Enhanced SOPMOD Stock — Coyote Brown military-pattern furniture with the familiar SOPMOD cheek weld and dual storage tubes.
  • B5 Coyote Brown Grip — Deliberately darker and matching the stock.
  • Dry-Film-Lubricated Receiver Extension — Six-position, mil-spec-diameter carbine tube
  • Virgin Assembly — Built by Charlie’s from a receiver that has not previously been assembled as a complete rifle or removed as a take-off.

A KAC Lower, Built the Way We Wanted It

What separates this lower from many “complete KAC lowers” on the secondary market is provenance and configuration. A take-off lower has already lived as part of a complete rifle. This receiver is offered by Charlie’s as a virgin assembly: a genuine KAC receiver that Charlie’s finished and assembled rather than a lower removed from a completed SR-15.

The color combination is intentional. The receiver wears FDE Cerakote while the stock and grip remain the somewhat darker B5 Coyote Brown. Trying to make every part exactly the same shade would miss the visual character of many military rifles, where anodized aluminum, applied coatings and molded polymer rarely age—or even begin life—as one perfectly matched color.

B5’s Enhanced SOPMOD stock traces its geometry to the Crane NSWC SOPMOD buttstock and adds the broad cheek weld, dual storage compartments, anti-rotation QD sockets and cushioned buttpad associated with the design. The Coyote Brown furniture also gives the lower enough contrast to work particularly well with tan, DDC or mixed-earth-tone uppers.

Inside, Charlie’s installs a Geissele two-stage trigger in place of the standard KAC trigger group. The two-stage format makes sense on an SR-15 because the lower may find itself beneath anything from a compact CQB upper to a 14.5" or 16" general-purpose carbine. The first stage provides controlled take-up followed by a distinct wall and second-stage break without turning the lower into a narrowly focused competition setup.

The Classic SR-15 Ambidextrous Architecture

Charlie’s retains the KAC control system rather than converting an ordinary AR lower with aftermarket ambidextrous parts. The selector and magazine release can be manipulated from either side, while the SR-15 provides bolt-release capability on both sides of the receiver.

That distinction matters. This is the classic SR-15 IWS ambidextrous lower architecture, not the newer KS-series lower with its more completely mirrored bolt-control arrangement. For the enthusiast building around the SR-15 Mod 2 generation, that is part of what makes the receiver desirable.

The extension is a six-position, mil-spec-diameter carbine receiver extension with dry-film lubricant, paired with the B5 SOPMOD stock. It is a small detail, but an appropriate one on a premium lower: correct stock fit, military-pattern treatment, and no inexpensive commercial-spec tube hanging from an otherwise exceptional receiver.

Finally, this is not represented as a factory KAC FDE lower. It is a Charlie’s Custom Clones assembly built from a genuine Knight’s Armament SR-15 receiver, Cerakoted in FDE by Charlie’s, assembled by KAC factory with KAC ambidextrous components, and completed with the Geissele and B5 components we wanted on the finished lower.  Note:  The lower did come to CCC as a lower and not a take-off from a rifle, so this is a Virgin lower.

FFL TRANSFER REQUIRED: This is a serialized firearm receiver and must ship to a licensed FFL. State and local restrictions may apply. Buyer and receiving dealer are responsible for determining lawful transfer and final configuration.

CANNOT SHIP TO CALIFORNIA:  SR15 is banned by name.

THIS IS A SERIALIZED FIREARM.  It must ship to a Federal Firearms License holder.  No civilian exceptions.

Buying and shipping through Charlie’s is easy, but there is some information you need to know. Only a federally licensed firearms dealer may receive a firearm or federally regulated serialized item (like a receiver or suppressor). We cannot ship these items directly to you. Please follow these steps to process your transaction:

1)     Check your state laws to make sure the federally regulated item you want to purchase is legal in your state. Your FFL dealer should be able to give you all of the necessary information regarding your state specific laws. But, if we ship to your FFL, and there is a legal issue, we cannot accept a return. So please make sure that you know and follow your local and state laws.

2)     A quick google search will show you what Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealers are in your area. When you are ready to purchase, contact the FFL dealer you would like to use and get their shipping address. During the check-out, put YOUR address in the “billing” section and the FFL DEALER’S address in the “shipping” section. If you don’t know your FFLs address, that’s okay. You can send the information later.

3)     After check out, make sure to contact your FFL dealer to ensure they will receive your shipment for you (most do this for a small fee, but you should always double check).

4)     Have your dealer send us a copy of their FFL to FFL@CharliesCustomClones.com. Charlie’s does not reach to your FFL (MAKE THEM EARN THEIR FEE!!!)

5)     Be patient! In order to ensure we remain compliant with all federal laws, our compliance department is kept separate from our sales and operations team. Please allow a few days for our compliance officer to verify all of your dealer’s documents and ensure all federal laws are being observed. You should hear from our compliance department within 3-4 business days. If not, feel free to reach out for a status update.

That’s it! We try to make this process as simple as possible for our customers, but if you are unfamiliar the process or have any other questions, please visit our How to Buy a Firearm page for more details.

California and New York residents please, click here. The process may be different due to state specific laws.

NOTE: The free shipping option does not apply to full rifles, unless purchased with a riflescope.  If you choose free shipping at check-out, we will bill you for shipping later.
