The FN M4A1 Block 1 SOCOM complete upper — a factory FN 14.7" barrel, pinned and welded to 16.0", in Block 1 SOPMOD trim, pulled from the FN Military Collector rifle and sold as a take-off upper.

  • Factory FN upper from the FN Military Collector series — same production line as FN's US military contract work
  • 14.7" chrome-lined heavy barrel, button-broached, 1:7 twist, factory pin-and-weld to 16.0" with a standard A2 flash hider
  • F-height front sight base with side-mounted M4A1 sling swivel — correct for an M4A1 Block 1 profile
  • M4 RAS rail with rail covers — builder's choice of Knight's Armament or Prudent American (PAT) at checkout
  • FN mil-spec BCG (HP/MPI), FN mil-spec charging handle, Matech/Picatinny Engineering BUIS

The M4A1 Block 1 is the late-1990s to mid-2000s configuration of the Special Operations M4A1 — the pre-Block II rifle run by Special Operations Forces through the early Global War on Terror period, built around a Colt 14.5" barrel, the Knight's Armament M4 RAS, and the SOPMOD Block I accessory kit. The Block 1 rifle is defined at the upper-receiver level by the full-auto-trigger-compatible A1 lower pairing, the chrome-lined heavy-profile M4A1 barrel, the F-height front sight base with a side sling swivel, and the KAC M4 RAS rail. This upper mirrors that spec, built on FN's production line rather than Colt's.

FN and Colt both produced military M4A1 rifles during the GWOT period. This is a "take-off" — a factory complete FN Military Collector rifle broken down by Charlie's into a lower (sold separately) and this upper. Every part of the upper left the FN line as a military-production component; nothing on this receiver is an aftermarket substitute.

A word on the 14.7" barrel: FN produces this length specifically for the Military Collector upper so the builder can pin and weld a standard A2 "birdcage" flash hider and hit the 16.0" non-NFA threshold without needing an extended flash hider. The barrel carries the M203 barrel indent forward of the A-frame front sight for the launcher strap, but does not carry the M203 mounting flats under the handguards — the Military Collector barrel is a heavy profile very close to the Colt SOCOM barrel in feel and weight. FN's pin-and-weld is done on the side and finished with a gray touch-up paint that does not always match the A2 phosphate color; it is the factory process, and customer opinion is split on the cosmetic result. Colt uses silver solder with a larger visible weld spot. Neither is invisible.

On the RAS option: the KAC M4 RAS is the original Knight's Armament rail that ships with program M4A1 Block 1 rifles. Availability has tightened since 2022 and street pricing has followed. Prudent American (formerly P&S Products) produces the same RAS to the same military specification for current contract work; the finish, feel, and fit are identical. Choose the KAC rail for the correct rollmarks on a strict clone build; choose the PAT rail for a faster ship and a lower all-in price on a shooter. Both are correct in spec. Rail covers ship to match.
