Why Carbon Fiber Changes Everything for Precision

Carbon fiber handguards offer three properties that matter for a precision rifle: light weight, thermal stability, and non-metallic construction. Aluminum handguards conduct and retain heat — after sustained firing, an aluminum handguard changes temperature significantly, and temperature changes affect materials and can influence barrel harmonics in ways that are difficult to predict and control. Carbon fiber is thermally stable — it does not expand and contract with temperature fluctuations the way metals do. This means the barrel's relationship to the handguard remains consistent across temperature ranges, supporting consistent shot-to-shot accuracy.

The Gen III Refinement

The Gen III designation reflects PRI's iterative engineering process — each generation incorporated feedback from military users and precision shooters. The Gen III is the refined version of their military-issue design, representing the version that went into documented Mk12 builds. For a clone-correct Mk12 Mod 0, this is not one option among many. Mod 0 vs. Mod 1: Choosing Your Handguard
