Heckler & Koch MR762-A1 7.62 NATO Rifle - M-LOK

A direct descendent of the HK417, the MR762-A1 is a semi-automatic rifle developed by Heckler & Koch as a premium level commercial/civilian firearm with match rifle capability. Like the HK417, the MR762A1 is a major product improvement over conventional AR-type carbines and rifles.

Charlie's is a big fan of HK rifles, and like most rifle aficionado types, we like the real deal. Getting the 7.62mm HK rifle has been a long waiting game, so when it is in stock, buy it.  As you probably know, this rifle is very close to the HK417, but has been civilianized. There are small changes that can be made to get this to look more like the German G28, or the US Army DMR, or even the M110A1 CSASS. But, you have to start with this platform. Or, you can enjoy the rifle as delivered. This is a first class .308/7.62 rifle. When you are looking for high quality 7.62 gas gun (AR10 style), there are only a very small number of names that come to the tip of our tongue at Charlie's. H&K is clearly on that list, and this rifle features a piston system, which is a little different.

Like its 5.56 counterpart, the MR762A1 is a direct descendant of the HK416/417 series, specifically designed for civilian semi-automatic use, and uses the HK-proprietary piston and a solid operating “pusher” rod in place of the common gas tube normally employed in AR15/M16/M4-style weapons.

Pioneered by Heckler & Koch in the G36, HK416, and HK417; this method results in a much cleaner receiver, bolt and trigger system. The piston system virtually eliminates malfunctions common to direct impingement gas systems since hot carbon fouling and waste gases do not enter the receiver area. The MR762A1 stays cleaner, reducing heat transfer to the bolt and bolt carrier, and drastically reducing wear and tear on other critical components. The service life of all parts is increased substantially.

The MR762A1 uses a barrel produced by Heckler & Koch’s famous cold hammer forging process. This manufacturing process uses the highest quality steel, producing a barrel that ensures superior accuracy, even after firing thousands of rounds. The MR762A1 is produced at Heckler & Koch’s American manufacturing facilities from both American and German-made components.

For those of you who follow imported rifles, civilians cannot own a semi-automatic rifle made in Germany, or made of 100% German parts. As much as HK fans would like that, there is an unusual, and to many, somewhat obscure gun law, known as Section 922(r). Title 18, USC Section 922(r) makes it unlawful to import or construct or assemble from imported parts, a semi-automatic military style weapon. The Regulations that implement Section 922(r) provide a list of rifle parts, and basically, for you and me to own a German semi-automatic rifle, many of the parts need to be made in the USA. This is why we cannot buy a pure H&K 417, and which is also why H&K is now doing the final assembly of the civilian version of the 417 -- this MR762-A1, in the US. It is a bit of an odd law, but it has its roots in restricting the importation of Chinese and Soviet surplus rifles. Between extreme restrictions in US law, there are also very stringent German laws regarding what can be exported.

The MR762A1 uses many of the assemblies and accessories originally developed for the HK416/417 series including adjustable buttstocks, ergonomic pistol grips, mechanical sights, and either the HK Modular Rail System or the HK free-floating four-quadrant rail system/handguard.

These M-LOK handguards allows all current accessories, sights, lights, and lasers used on M4/M16-type weapons to be fitted to the MR series either by direct attach or through Picatinny rail sections. The HK rail systems can be removed without special tools by the user and ensures 100% return to zero when reinstalled.

With both the HK Modular Rail System (MRS) and the Free Floating Rail System (FFRS), the barrel does not touch the handguard, ensuring the barrel/handguard relationship is truly free-floating for maximum accuracy.

Ambidextrous operating controls are standard on the MR762A1, including a convertible charging handle and an ambidextrous selector lever. As the MR762-A1 has its roots as a precision rifle, the trigger is two-stage match. The barrel is likewise a highly accurate 4 groove barrel without chrome lining.  The military version has a chrome-lining, which is good, but keep in-mind that chrome lining takes away from accuracy, and is used to prevent corrosion in the barrel in a battle situation where mud and dirt and salt water may enter the barrel.

The MR762A1 uses the same 10- and 20-Round translucent polymer box magazines made for the HK417. One 20-Round magazine is included. MR762A1 is clearly a tactical rifle, and is well suited for law enforcement tactical, police patrol, general sporting uses, and can also be used as a hunting rifle.

THIS IS A SERIALIZED FIREARM.  It must ship to a Federal Firearms License holder.  No civilian exceptions.

Buying and shipping through Charlie’s is easy, but there is some information you need to know. Only a federally licensed firearms dealer may receive a firearm or federally regulated serialized item (like a receiver or suppressor). We cannot ship these items directly to you. Please follow these steps to process your transaction:

1)     Check your state laws to make sure the federally regulated item you want to purchase is legal in your state. Your FFL dealer should be able to give you all of the necessary information regarding your state specific laws. But, if we ship to your FFL, and there is a legal issue, we cannot accept a return. So please make sure that you know and follow your local and state laws.

2)     A quick google search will show you what Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealers are in your area. When you are ready to purchase, contact the FFL dealer you would like to use and get their shipping address. During the check-out, put YOUR address in the “billing” section and the FFL DEALER’S address in the “shipping” section. If you don’t know your FFLs address, that’s okay. You can send the information later.

3)     After check out, make sure to contact your FFL dealer to ensure they will receive your shipment for you (most do this for a small fee, but you should always double check).

4)     Have your dealer send us a copy of their FFL to FFL@CharliesCustomClones.com. Charlie’s does not reach to your FFL (MAKE THEM EARN THEIR FEE!!!)

5)     Be patient! In order to ensure we remain compliant with all federal laws, our compliance department is kept separate from our sales and operations team. Please allow a few days for our compliance officer to verify all of your dealer’s documents and ensure all federal laws are being observed. You should hear from our compliance department within 3-4 business days. If not, feel free to reach out for a status update.

That’s it! We try to make this process as simple as possible for our customers, but if you are unfamiliar the process or have any other questions, please visit our How to Buy a Firearm page for more details.

California and New York residents please, click here. The process may be different due to state specific laws.

NOTE: The free shipping option does not apply to full rifles, unless purchased with a riflescope.  If you choose free shipping at check-out, we will bill you for shipping later.
