Designed for elite operators, the most compact Dual-Lok silencer is available commercial

The Dual-Lok HRT suppressor was submitted to the FBI in 2022 as part of the Hostage Rescue Team's bid to find a new suppressor for their elite operators.  Griffin utilizes the DUAL-LOK active retention system with this suppressor, an often time demanded feature by government customers.  This combined with generations of R&D brought a compact, highly durable, low flash, and top-performing suppressor to market for government customers. Griffin is now releasing it to the commercial market.

Griffin has been a name brand in the suppressor world before suppressors became mainstream.  The HRT design was a new evolution for the Green brothers at Griffin.  Built to surpass the fourth generation Recce suppressors, the HRT-556 is lighter, stronger, quieter, and has less back pressure. With no barrel length restrictions and a full auto rating from its Inconel and 17-4PH construction, the HRT-556 can handle anything you want to throw at it. A variety of mount options are available to utilize this silencer on your entire 5.56 arsenal. The Dual-Lok mount offers solid lock up with minimal point of impact shift. Finally, the ECO-Flow baffle design reduces blowback and shooter toxicity while the tube incorporates flash hiding characteristics. All covered by Griffin's Perpetual Lifetime Warranty.

Highlights

  • Compact and lightweight at just 14.4 oz yet durable enough for sustained full-auto fire
  • Patent pending Dual-Lok mounting system for rock-solid attachment and minimal POI shift
  • Low flash signature and top-tier sound suppression in a tiny 5.9” package
  • ECO-Flow patented baffle system reduces backpressure and blowback
  • FBI HRT bid submission

As Austin Green, Lead Design Engineer at Griffin Armament, describes the development of the DUAL-LOK suppressor:

I spent several months very focused on this project with our production managers and technicians making small changes to the baffle system, cutting the prototype parts, welding prototypes, then testing through our B&K pulse system, and repeating this cycle over and over and over.  I wanted the absolute best sound and flash performance in the smallest size possible.  Our team achieved it. I have never made so many prototypes for one series in the last 17 years as I did with the DUAL-LOK cans. Bringing together sound and flash performance, while retaining accuracy and durability in a package this small; we haven’t done it before. This little can has some of the best flash performance of any in our line, regardless of its size.  I’m really proud of what our team did here.

Boasting Griffin’s latest innovations in signature reduction, the HRT-556 delivers remarkable flash hiding and sound suppression performance in its minimalist size. The patent pending ECO-Flow baffle system reduces backpressure for smooth cycling and less blowback while the patented end cap slashes visible muzzle flash. Even with its compact 5.9” length, the HRT-556 puts up sound and flash numbers rivaling much larger cans.

The tubeless design allows for less weight and more volume, translating into a quieter silencer than many others in the class. The baffles are laser-welded, preventing human error during the manufacturing process.

The Dual-Lok system is integrated into the silencer body to provide maximum accuracy and enhance durability. A precision taper interface between the muzzle device and mount keeps POI shift consistent and repeatable.

Finally within reach for civilian shooters, the HRT-556 brings elite-level capability to your AR platform. Whether you need a lightweight suppressor for fast handling drills or a compact can to keep your SBR as handy as possible, the HRT-556 delivers. Experience the heightened performance and refined durability that once only the most elite units could access. The HRT-556 will take your shooting to the next level.

Testing

The following video is test conducted under controlled conditions comparing the HRT to a legacy Griffin suppressor, as well as to the Dead Air Sierra 5 suppressor with a standard 16" AR15, as well as an 11.5" SBR.  Some may not feel the conditions are scientific enough, but it is an interesting comparison.  We at Charlie's support independent testing, like that at Pew Science.  We also realize that how a suppressor sounds in the field is often different than test conditions, for sure.  We feel that decibels matter, but the sound in the field matters as well.  Like optics, one can get overall analytical about suppressors, but some reference point is good.

In evaluating testing of sound output, Charlie's believes that the two most important measurements are sound at the muzzle, to the left and right, and sound at the shooter's ear on the right side, where gas ejects.  Also, the volume of a suppressor:  Its length and width, are directly proportional to the quietness of a can.  We all want small, compact suppressors, and those cannot compare to longer wider suppressors.  As you watch this video, take into consideration the length, weight and width of the silencers that are being compared.

Buying and shipping through Charlie’s is easy, but there is some information you need to know. This item must ship to FFL holder. No civilian exceptions.

1) Check your state laws to make sure the federally regulated item you want to purchase is legal in your state.

2) Find your FFL… Have your dealer send us a copy of their FFL and SOT to Charlie’s (Make them earn their fee!). Not every FFL is a SOT or Class 2 / Class 3 dealer.

3) Be patient! You should hear from our compliance department within 3-4 business days. If not, feel free to reach out for a status update.

That’s it! We try to make this process as simple as possible for our customers. Please click the “Buying a Firearm” tab at the top of this page for more information.

THIS IS A SERIALIZED ITEM.  It must ship to a Federal Firearms License holder.  No civilian exceptions.

Buying and shipping through Charlie’s is easy, but there is some information you need to know. Only a federally licensed firearms dealer may receive a firearm or federally regulated serialized item (like a receiver or suppressor). We cannot ship these items directly to you. Please follow these steps to process your transaction:

1)     Check your state laws to make sure the federally regulated item you want to purchase is legal in your state. Your FFL dealer should be able to give you all of the necessary information regarding your state specific laws. But, if we ship to your FFL, and there is a legal issue, we cannot accept a return. So please make sure that you know and follow your local and state laws.

2)     A quick google search will show you what Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealers are in your area. When you are ready to purchase, contact the FFL dealer you would like to use and get their shipping address. During the check-out, put YOUR address in the “billing” section and the FFL DEALER’S address in the “shipping” section. If you don’t know your FFLs address, that’s okay. You can send the information later.

3)     After check out, make sure to contact your FFL dealer to ensure they will receive your shipment for you (most do this for a small fee, but you should always double check).

4)     Have your dealer send us a copy of their FFL to FFL@CharliesCustomClones.com. Charlie’s does not reach to your FFL (MAKE THEM EARN THEIR FEE!!!)

5)     Be patient! In order to ensure we remain compliant with all federal laws, our compliance department is kept separate from our sales and operations team. Please allow a few days for our compliance officer to verify all of your dealer’s documents and ensure all federal laws are being observed. You should hear from our compliance department within 3-4 business days. If not, feel free to reach out for a status update.

That’s it! We try to make this process as simple as possible for our customers, but if you are unfamiliar the process or have any other questions, please visit our How to Buy a Suppressor page for more details.
