Geissele
NOTE: ONLY A FEW OF THESE UPPERS ARE BEING PRODUCED AND SHIPPED IN 2022 - 2024
For more than 50 years the famed silhouette of the M16/M4 has only had one major and several minor changes. Barrel lengths and buttstocks have changed, but more or less the evolution of America’s right arm has proceeded apace with each generation of warrior making her their own. In that time, the sight of the M16/M4 in the competent grasp of young Americans has meant hope to countless millions of people around the globe.
With the advent of the USASOC URGI, that quintessentially American silhouette has changed forever. The Geissele Super Modular Rail MK 16 handguard, hammer forged barrel, and mid-length gas system work in concert for a package that delivers measurable increases in hit probability. Designed to take the full rigors of the new M855A1 (AB57) ammunition, the USASOC URGI also takes full advantage of its capabilities. Once the USASOC URGI is installed on an existing system, it essentially makes for a brand-new weapon. The USASOC URGI is a near-clone upper receiver group which comes close to being what is currently going into service with USASOC.
Each URGI is fitted with the handguard Geissele designed specifically for USASOC, the MK 16 M-LOK™ Super Modular Rail handguard with a full-length Picatinny top rail and lotsa slots for other accessories. T-markings are engraved on the rail but not painted white to help keep the rifle unobtrusive.
This is Geissele factory assembled and comes in a new Geissele factory box. If you choose the Surefire 4-prong, it is assembled by Geissele. If you choose the Warcomp, it will be attached by an outside shop, contracted by Charlies. I must tell you, the pin and weld job that Charlie's shop does is better than Bill's, but that is a fight for another day.
Some may remember the original offering from Geissele in 2018 included a 30% off coupon from Surefire for both a SOCOM suppressor and a Surefire flashlight. Those coupons are no longer offered.
What, you ask, is the difference between this newer 2024 production and the original URGI "near clone" that Geissele produced in 2018 and 2019? Geissele has replaced the military spec Daniel Defense barrel that the US Army uses with a Geissele produced barrel, that is very similar. Also, Geissele is using their BCG in this build. Aside from that, the two are very similar. To confuse you futher, we offer two other URGI uppers that are in various stages of clone-correctness, if you prefer a true to military upper. Also, starting in 2024, the rail has a stainless 17-4 steel grommet that reinforces the QD sling socket
NFA Comment: The 14.5" barrel is pinned and welded to make the barrel length compliant with the National Firearms Act, and is not a short barreled upper. Removal of the pinned flash hider will result in the upper being an NFA item, and is also not recommended, as it will cause damage to the threads of the barrel as well.
