Colt Lower Receiver with FULL M16 TRIGGER POCKET

Ready for FRT style trigger assemblies

This is a genuine Colt M4 CARBINE-marked stripped lower receiver, professionally modified by Charlie's Custom Clones with the rear of the fire-control pocket machined to M16-pattern geometry. The idea is straightforward: keep the serialized Colt receiver, markings and M4 pedigree that matter to a serious Colt build, while giving the lower the internal pocket configuration required for certain specialized trigger applications. After machining, Charlie's blackens the freshly exposed aluminum for a cleaner, finished appearance. For the builder who specifically wants a real Colt rather than an easier aftermarket substitute, this is the best of both worlds.

  • Genuine Colt M4 CARBINE Receiver — Real Colt manufacture, markings and serialized foundation rather than a reproduction lower.
  • M16-Pattern Fire-Control Pocket — Charlie's machines the rear of the factory pocket to M16-pattern geometry.
  • FRT-Oriented Configuration — Provides the rear-pocket geometry used by certain forced-reset trigger systems.
  • Machined by Charlie's — Added shop work separates this receiver from the standard Colt stripped lowers in our inventory.
  • Machined Area Blackened — Fresh aluminum is treated after machining rather than left bright inside the receiver.
  • Colt Exterior Preserved — The modification is internal; the Colt identity and M4 CARBINE markings remain intact.
  • Stripped Configuration — Ready for the builder's selected lower components and compatible fire-control system.

Factory Colt fire-control pocket compared with Charlie's M16-pattern machining. Production receivers are blackened after machining.

What Is Different Inside a Colt M4 Lower?

AR-15 lowers are frequently described as either “high shelf” or “low shelf.” That shorthand works reasonably well for many commercial receivers, but it does not tell the whole story with a Colt M4 lower.

Colt does not simply give the commercial M4 receiver the conventional low rear shelf found in many aftermarket lowers. The semi-automatic Colt receiver retains additional material across the rear portion of the fire-control pocket. Compare it to an M16-pattern receiver and the difference is immediately visible: where the M16 pocket continues rearward, the factory Colt commercial pocket does not.

That difference usually means very little with an ordinary semi-automatic fire-control group. It becomes important when a particular trigger system requires the additional internal space associated with M16-pattern pocket geometry.

Charlie's machines that rear portion of the Colt pocket to the M16-pattern configuration. This is more substantial than removing a small interference point or casually “making room for a trigger.” The pocket geometry itself is being changed. The before-and-after photographs show the distinction better than a paragraph ever could.

Why Start With the Colt?

Because the lower receiver is one of the details that defines a serious Colt clone. The M4 CARBINE marking, Colt manufacture and Colt serial number give a build something an otherwise excellent aftermarket receiver cannot: it actually starts with Colt.

Charlie's already sells standard Colt lowers for builders who simply need the authentic foundation. This version is different. It is for the customer who wants to retain that genuine Colt receiver while also having the internal rear pocket machined for a more specialized configuration.

Once machining is complete, the exposed aluminum is blackened so the work does not remain as a large patch of bright unfinished metal inside an otherwise black receiver. The machining is visible when you know where to look, but the finished product looks intentional rather than unfinished.

An important distinction: machining the receiver to M16-pattern pocket geometry does not by itself convert the lower into a select-fire M16 receiver. It changes the internal pocket geometry. The practical purpose of this Charlie's configuration is compatibility with certain specialized trigger systems while keeping the genuine Colt lower at the center of the build.

There are less expensive receivers that already provide generous internal clearance. That misses the reason this product exists. The customer buying this lower did not just want a receiver that works. He wanted the Colt.

THIS IS A SERIALIZED FIREARM.  It must ship to a Federal Firearms License holder.  No civilian exceptions.

Buying and shipping through Charlie’s is easy, but there is some information you need to know. Only a federally licensed firearms dealer may receive a firearm or federally regulated serialized item (like a receiver or suppressor). We cannot ship these items directly to you. Please follow these steps to process your transaction:

1)     Check your state laws to make sure the federally regulated item you want to purchase is legal in your state. Your FFL dealer should be able to give you all of the necessary information regarding your state specific laws. But, if we ship to your FFL, and there is a legal issue, we cannot accept a return. So please make sure that you know and follow your local and state laws.

2)     A quick google search will show you what Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealers are in your area. When you are ready to purchase, contact the FFL dealer you would like to use and get their shipping address. During the check-out, put YOUR address in the “billing” section and the FFL DEALER’S address in the “shipping” section. If you don’t know your FFLs address, that’s okay. You can send the information later.

3)     After check out, make sure to contact your FFL dealer to ensure they will receive your shipment for you (most do this for a small fee, but you should always double check).

4)     Have your dealer send us a copy of their FFL to FFL@CharliesCustomClones.com. Charlie’s does not reach to your FFL (MAKE THEM EARN THEIR FEE!!!)

5)     Be patient! In order to ensure we remain compliant with all federal laws, our compliance department is kept separate from our sales and operations team. Please allow a few days for our compliance officer to verify all of your dealer’s documents and ensure all federal laws are being observed. You should hear from our compliance department within 3-4 business days. If not, feel free to reach out for a status update.

That’s it! We try to make this process as simple as possible for our customers, but if you are unfamiliar the process or have any other questions, please visit our How to Buy a Firearm page for more details.

California and New York residents please, click here. The process may be different due to state specific laws.

NOTE: The free shipping option does not apply to full rifles, unless purchased with a riflescope.  If you choose free shipping at check-out, we will bill you for shipping later.
