What they say is true, Charlie is a scope snob. But part of being a scope snob is not always recommending the BMW or the Porsche, but many times the Subaru or Volkswagen has an amazing product at a great price. Burris also doubles as the assembler of made in America Steiner scopes, so they have learned a thing or two, and the XTR3 series is a great value and worthy of a look, if you are in the market for a good scope in mid-magnification. When we mention good magnification, we are thinking of shooting out to 600 or 800 yards, as well as shots in the 100 to 300 yard range. With a low-end of 3x and a high end of 18x, this covers the AR15 market, unless you want to look at the blades of grass where you bullet hits.
This designed in the USA scope comes with an outstanding field of view, and a full 5x zoom factor. The XTR3 is equipped with Burris’s Zero Click Stop in the elevation turret – this allows the shooter to quickly and easily revert to their original zeroing without having to count clicks or reference marks. The lenses are composed of Burris’s high performance glass to provide excellent brightness, light transmission, and clarity. These lenses are also given Hi-Lume multi-coatings, which delivers enhanced low light performance and greatly cuts down on glare. Other features of the XTR III includes the advanced SCR 2 Reticle. It features an ultra-fine, free floating center cross, sitting atop a “Christmas tree” pyramid of holdover points and hash marks. This configuration allows the shooter to accurately compensate for bullet drop and wind drift, as well as range estimation.
