Knights Armament (KAC)
KAC’s iconic Ribbed Rail Panels have seen use all over the globe on US military M4 Carbines. The lightweight polymer panels are ribbed for an enhanced grip, and help insulate the support hand from barrel heat. While originally designed for use on the KAC M4 RIS and M4 RAS rails, these panels are also compatible with many other railed handguards.
The ribbed rail covers are typically used on KAC and other military contract M4 Carbine RAS Quad Rails and M5 Rifle Quad Rails, as well as some Knights free floating RAS rails, like the FF Carbine RAS and the FF Rifle length RAS, which is used on the Mk12 Mod 1 and some Navy RECCE rifles from the early to mid 2000s. They also fit certain other specific railed handguards which have specific notches cut out for RAS rail covers. Some Midwest Industries, LaRue and Troy rails have these. The 11-rib covers are the largest of various size rail covers, and cover the entire length of a M4 mil spec RAS.
While Knights is the most well known military contractor to provide RAS, other contractors, such as P&S Products and Prudent American Technologies (PAT) made RAS quad rails and also covers, which are pretty much identical to the Knights line.
For clone rifle nerds, the KAC RAS covers come in three engraved versions. The very early rail covers were marked with Knights Armament and Vero Beach, which was the Knights HQ up through 2003. The next vintage of rail covers is this one here, which has the Knights Armament engraving and nothing else. The current version, starting probably around 2010 or so, and continuing to current production, contains the Knights name and their CAGE Code: 1S002. A CAGE code is nothing buy a US Department of Defense code which is given to each military contractor.
As this specific engraving is no longer made, it is referred to as NOS, or "new old stock," meaning the product is unused, or new, but is old stock, which has been sitting in a box for many years.
