Daniel Defense
The GL/SSC URG is an upper receiver group — the barrel, rail, bolt carrier group, and charging handle assembled and ready to drop onto any mil-spec AR lower. No FFL transfer required in most states. And for builders who already have a quality lower in hand, it's the most direct path to one of the most significant AR configurations ever made.
The GL/SSC URG exists for a specific kind of builder: the one who already has a quality mil-spec lower — or who wants to pair this upper with a precisely chosen lower to complete a specific clone build or personal configuration. Buying the URG separately gives you that flexibility. You control the lower, the stock or brace, the pistol grip, and every other component below the upper. The result can be a more exact clone, a more personalized build, or simply a more cost-effective path to the GL/SSC configuration if you're starting from an existing platform.
The GL/SSC (Grenade Launcher / Sound Suppressor Compatible) was developed in close collaboration with U.S. Special Operations units that needed a single platform capable of mounting both an M203 grenade launcher and a suppressor — without workarounds, without additional parts, without compromising the barrel or its harmonics. The answer was the RIS II rail with an integrated hanger system, and it worked so well that the configuration became legendary. Only 25 ever reached civilian hands in the original production run. This is the first time Daniel Defense has made the GL/SSC available to the general public, and the URG gives builders direct access to the heart of that configuration.
It's also worth noting what the GL/SSC URG is in the context of NFA law. Installed on a pistol lower with a brace, it produces a pistol — no tax stamp required. Installed on a registered lower with a rifle stock, it becomes an SBR, which requires a Form 4 transfer or a Form 1 if you're building it yourself. The upper itself is not regulated — but how you configure the complete firearm matters. If you have questions about how to build this out correctly for your situation, call us. We build these for a living.
Note: This is an upper receiver group, not a complete firearm. No FFL transfer is required for the upper in most states. Purchaser must be 21 years of age or older per U.S. federal law.
