Army engineers and scientists optimized the EPM to work with the M4/M4A1, M16 rifle, and the standard military 5.56mm small arms round, the M855A1. The M855A1, known also as the Enhanced Performance Round (EPR), has been in use since 2010.
Following the EPR's release, engineering tests of M4/M16 rifles firing the M855A1 showed that the weapons were sensitive to the EPR's steel tip. A Picatinny Arsenal, NJ engineering team subsequently made a design change to the magazine that corrected this issue. The EPM eliminates weapon wear caused by the steel-tipped M855A1 at the upper receiver/barrel extension interface, a condition discovered during laboratory testing.
Note: These have been used at Army rifle ranges, and are used. They will show signs of wear, discoloration in the follower, some scratches, etc., but are fully functional.
The EPM is a brown to tan-color and has a blue-gray follower. The latter is the spring-loaded plastic component that positions each round up into the lower receiver of the weapon. Each magazine holds a maximum of 30 rounds.

Used, but most look better than ones we've had for a few years. This is military surplus. The real deal.
Important: The EPM magazine has a more snug fit than other magazines. It is designed for use in military grade lower receivers. We recommend using the EPM in Colt, LMT, FN, KAC, and Rock River receivers. If you are using a commercial receiver, the fit might be too snug to drop free. We do not guarantee fit with non-military grade forged receivers. This is not a defect, it is a design. If your receiver does not fit and you are not using one of the above brands, returns are accepted, but not as a defect, and you will be responsible for return shipping and restocking, per our return policy.
Note: Minimum order quantity of two (2) each.
Notice to residents of CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, HI, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VT, and WA (as of Dec 3, 2022): We are not taking orders for shipment of high capacity magazines to your state. We are hopeful that the legal system will allow for freedom to restore rights soon, and when that happens, this note will be removed, and we will be happy to take your order.
This policy is consistent with other online sellers, and we are keeping communication lines open with larger online sellers, and we are all following the same shipping policy. Some online dealers are accepting orders and holding shipment. If we were to accept an order, our system charges your card when you buy, not when we ship, so we are not accepting orders and not taking your money.
