Made by KAK Industries, known for manufacturing no-nonsense, affordable AR-15 solutions. The design is inspired by the original Type 1 "Duckbill" three prong flash hider found on the earliest variants.
Long before the A2 flash hider or suppressor mounts of today, Colt experimented with the "Duckbill" three prong flash hider in the early 1960s. The Type 1 three prong was the device found on the original Colt 601 AR-15 and was found on some 607s. It would be replaced by the Type 2 on future models due to reports of the prongs bending or breaking, allegedly from soldiers using the prongs to help break the metal straps on C rations and supply crates. After the open prong flash hiders would come the closed tine A1 then A2 "Birdcages" then the KAC and Surefire muzzle devices used to mount issued silencers. All have their place, but the original Duckbill is iconic.
