B&T Telescoping Stock for MP5

The B&T Telescoping Stock for MP5 is a five-position retractable stock for full-size MP5-pattern firearms, including the HK MP5, SP5, MP5SD and compatible in-spec clones. B&T uses a compact aluminum stock assembly that mounts at the original rear attachment point and gives the MP5 a short profile when collapsed, with five selectable positions for adjusting fit. The stock pulls directly to the desired position and locks automatically; the release button is used when retracting it. It is a modern B&T treatment of the MP5 stock for shooters who want compact storage, quick deployment and more adjustment than the traditional MP5 stock arrangements provide.

B&T's Modern Take on the MP5 Stock

The MP5 has been around since the 1960s, but the platform has never really stopped evolving. B&T introduced this stock in 2020 after describing continued police use of the MP5 and requests from agencies already modernizing the guns with newer handguards, optic mounts and related components. The result was not another reproduction of the original HK retractable stock. B&T adapted the telescoping concept already used on its own APC family to the older MP5 receiver.

That difference shows up most clearly in operation. The stock can be pulled rearward without first pressing a release lever, stopping at the selected position. To shorten it, press the locking knob and push the stock forward. B&T's current manual specifies five positions, with stock lengths of approximately 2.68, 4.84, 6.02, 7.20 and 9.57 inches. Fully extended, the assembly measures just under 9.6 inches from its rear mounting point.

The design can also be useful on some MP5-pattern clones. Traditional HK retractable stocks use long rails that travel in channels along the receiver, and some clone receivers do not accept those stocks smoothly. Both Bauer Precision and HK Parts specifically identify the B&T as an alternative where an HK-style retractable stock binds in those receiver channels. Any clone should still be checked for proper fit before installation.

For a period-correct MP5 build, an original-pattern HK fixed or retractable stock remains the historically appropriate choice. The B&T makes more sense on a modern SP5, MP5SD or upgraded clone where compactness, rapid extension and multiple length settings matter more than preserving the original appearance.

One detail is worth knowing. B&T's 2020 launch material described an earlier three-position stock weighing approximately 17.5 ounces. The current B&T factory manual for BT-200590 specifies five positions and 18.1 ounces. We use the current factory specifications.

While designed and manufactured to fit the genuine HK MP5, MP5SD, and SP5, this stock will fit many MP5 clones that have trouble with the OEM Heckler & Koch stock binding in the side receiver channels.
