Looking at the Geissele catalog can be a bit daunting. Super Duty rigs, URGIs, GFRs, and more. Geissele has been building on their purpose driven product line for years now. Some are built for various units or agencies while some are built for specific shooting disciplines.
What Geissele has set out to do with the Border Patrol Rifle series is to offer an enhanced Mil-Spec platform that gives meaningful quality of life improvements without sacrificing the durability they're known for. The Geissele Border Patrol Rifle is a near-clone of the contract rifles from the contract with Customs and Border Protection from late 2022.
The Geissele Border Patrol Rifle is built on the foundation of the Super Duty receiver set. Hard coat anodized 7075 T6 aluminum is fitted with Geissele's Super Duty trigger guard, Super Stainless Mag Catch, Ultra Duty Mag Release, and is finished off with a Mil-Spec lower parts kit. Geissele includes stainless takedown pins and their posi-snap safety.
The Border Patrol Rifle is designed and made to be a fully-featured service rifle with an eye towards retaining mil-spec features where doing so had no negative impact on performance. This rifle is an excellent choice for those looking for a no-frills AR-15 that will offer years of reliable service.
What truly makes a rifle is the barrel. Geissele barrels are precision machined, chrome-lined, and cold hammer forged. The mid length gas system is perfect for the 14.5" barrel, and includes a Geissele Super Compact Gas Block installed at the factory with both lower set screws and cross pin. This is something Geissele has been doing since 2018. Is it necessary? No, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. With a 1:7 twist this barrel can stabilize current long, low drag projectiles such as the ubiquitous 77 grain Sierra Match King.
The Border Patrol rifle is designed to be lightweight and maneuverable while still being robust and dependable. The MK 20 Super Modular Rail is skeletonized to significantly reduce mass, yet offers a sturdy mounting platform with M-Lok slots running its length at 3-, 6-, and 9-o’clock. The keyed mating system between the upper receiver and rail ensures the handguard doesn’t twist or move under hard use.
The skeletonized 12.6” MK20 rail mates to the upper via a center aligning tab removing any chance of rail rotation. This rail is the variant currently fielded by US Customs and Border Protection. At Charlie's, we like the way in which the upper mates to the rail. It not only ensures proper alignment but also prevents rotation under use.
The rifle has a Geissele Government Charging Handle. Both levers on the handle articulate, allowing ambidextrous use. The rifle comes with the H2 buffer and a braided wire buffer spring. The braided buffer spring provides approximately 15-percent more pressure on the buffer. This pushes the bolt carrier group hard enough to ensure the rifle functions when dirty and when loading from a full magazine. The braided wire spring is less likely than the mil-spec spring to lose length and spring weight over time, making the braided spring more reliable long-term.
The trigger is ALG Defense’s Advanced Combat Trigger that uses mil-spec components improved through coatings. ALG coats the trigger in nickel-boron and the hammer and disconnector in nickel-teflon. These surface treatments ensure the ACT has a pull and function similar to the mil-spec trigger, just smoother and much more corrosion resistant.
Every component of the Border Patrol rifle has been designed and selected for extended duty use under harsh conditions. For a lightweight, handy and reliable duty rifle, look no further than the Border Patrol rifle.
Muzzle Options: Charlie's offers you several muzzle device options, and along with that the option to have this duty rifle configured as a Short Barreled Rifle (NFA), or not. The barrel length is 14.5", which makes the rifle subject to NFA regulations and registration. However, you have the option to have the rifle pinned and welded, so that your rifle will have a permanent 16" barrel, making it exempt from NFA laws.
Buying and shipping through Charlie’s is easy, but there is some information you need to know. This item must ship to FFL holder. No civilian exceptions.
