The Troy gas block has been used by DIY'ers and rifle builders alike. It has a strong design and slim enough to fit under most rails. The gas block is held in place with set pins. Charlie's recommends that the barrel be dimpled, having a small indentation drilled in the first pin hole to give extra security to the installation, then a little red Loctite, and you are good to go. No need to drill a pin through the barrel.
