Built to the same exacting standards as the scopes chosen by SOCOM, the Leupold Mark 5HD provides discerning shooters a lightweight and durable optic for any precision shooting need. The 3.8-18x44 variant has been picked for the M110 SASS while the 5-25x56 has been selected for the M22 Mod 0 sniper rifle by the US Army. This is the 7-35x56 model for extreme long range use. This model features a tactical T3 reticle and illumination.
Coming in at only 3 ounces more than the Mark 5HD 5-25x, the 7-35x longer range scope is a high performance optic without a weight penalty. With its 5X magnification range and ample field of view, this optic is capable of clearing courses and topping podiums. Excellent light transmission and image clarity come from high quality glass and Leupold’s Professional-Grade Optical System. The 35mm main tube gives the erector system plenty of space for the adjustments that demanding long range competitions require. A locking elevation turret features tactile clicks and a revolution indicator, while an included power throw lever makes magnification changes smooth and fast.
Like all Leupold scopes, the Mark 5HD is manufactured in America. The Mark 5HD scopes are some of the best made scopes offered by any brand: waterproof, fogproof, shockproof, and guaranteed for life.
This model of the Mark 5HD is first focal plane and has an illuminated MIL-based Horus Vision designed Tremor 3 reticle to give the shooter plenty of hold points to work with in the reticle.
The Tremor 3 reticle can appear intimidating, and amongst long range shooters, there is clearly a love or hate for this reticle. But, the reticle serves a purpose. Designed by Horus, the Tremor line is use by the US Military, and has its own systematic training, but what sets it apart from other reticles is the ability to use hold-overs for moving targets and for range-finding; both of which are extremely important for military and tactical sniper teams who need to react in real time. Aside from its movement hold-over dots, the Tremor3 is much like any Christmas-tree style reticle with the ability to find wind and distance hold-overs.
For tactical long-range shooters, a first focal plane (FFP) reticle offers distinct advantages. Unlike second focal plane scopes, FFP reticles maintain their scale relative to the target throughout the entire magnification range. This means that holdover points, ranging estimates, and windage corrections remain true regardless of the zoom level. In high-pressure situations or when rapid adjustments are necessary, this consistency can be crucial. FFP scopes eliminate the need for mental calculations when changing magnification, allowing shooters to focus entirely on the target and environmental factors, ultimately enhancing accuracy and efficiency in the field.
