The Leupold Mark 4HD is engineered for clarity and precision. The HD lenses counteract light dispersion and heighten image sharpness, providing immaculate clarity. The Mark 4HD provides more contrast and edge-to-edge clarity. The M5C3 ZeroLock turrets allow for windage and elevation to be adjusted in 0.1-mil increments with visible and tactile indicators. 

Parallax focus is a side knob that is easy to use, and the scope tracks predictably with a precise return to zero. The 4:1 zoom ratio allows a good balance. Less and the shooter feels lacking. More, and the engineering starts to get difficult to maintain image quality without a large cost increase. The eyepiece is adjusted with a simple turn, while power adjustments are fast using the integrated throw lever. The 34mm main tube allows the user to pick from a broad range of mount options from many manufacturers.
