Meet the pinnacle of AR-15 design, the "Complete Ambidextrous Daniel Defense RIII AR-15 Lower Receiver". This isn't just a lower receiver; it's a work of art, DD is known for both great manufacturing and great finish quality. Born from a complete M4A1 RIII rifle, this factory-assembled lower receiver proudly carries the Daniel Defense legacy forward.  Full Ambi lowers have been the realm of brands like Knights Armament, LMT and Colt.  The R-III rifle from DD introduces the full ambidextrious lower in whole new way, and it has been extremely popular.

This AR lower is designed to cater to the needs of both right- and left-handed marksmen. Its fully ambidextrous design allows seamless operation of the bolt catch, regardless of your shooting hand preference. Frequently Asked Questions:

Is this a complete lower receiver?

Yes, this product is a complete lower receiver, factory assembled by Daniel Defense.

Can this lower receiver be used for a pistol build?

No, this lower receiver is designed for rifle builds only.

How does the DD lower compare to LMT or KAC?

That can be very subjective.  At CCC, we know that Knights fans enjoy Knights products, and it is incredible how much some people are willing to pay for the name.  There is no doubt that Knights builds outstanding firearms and components.  But, this lower compares well to KAC and LMT.  This lower does have a standard milspec DD trigger, so there is a slight edge to LMT and KAC with their fine-tuned triggers, but if you wish to add a great trigger, you can do that with a Geissele or LaRue trigger, and we think you will be just as happy with this lower as the other two more mainstream military grade lowers.

Special Note for those wishing to use in an SBR (Form 1) build:  This lower will transfer to you as a Title I (standard) lower receiver.  We source these lowers from both standard 16"+ rifles (Title 1 firearm) and SBRs (NFA Title 2 firearm).   The lower is a lower is a lower, and even if it was removed from an SBR, it is a legal lower, and only becomes a short barreled rifle if and when configured as such.  At Charlie's, we use both hosts (Title 1 and Title 2) to remove and sell the lower receiver.  DD does not provide virgin lowers, so the only way to buy a lower is to buy a harvested lower.  We do not segregate the lowers, as once stripped from the upper, they all have the same markings.

On our ATF books, we record as manufacturing a lower from a rifle, and transfer the lower to your local dealer.  For SBR hosts, we also advise the ATF to "delist" from their NFA records.  If your lower came off a DD short barreled rifle (Title 2), Charlie's will delist the lower from the National Firearms Registry.  There is no requirement that the delisting be completed by the ATF at the time you take delivery.  The only restriction is if you were to build a new SBR, you must wait a number of months for the ATF delisting to be finalized, if you are filing a Form 1.   Generally, this tends to be in the 4 to 7 month range.  We send a list to the NFA Division and attach a spreadsheet, then the ATF NFA Division eventually sends us a snail mail confirmation, which we then record in a list.

IF YOU PLAN ON MAKING AN SBR, let us know.  We will make a note in our spreadsheet to email you once the ATF has delisted.  Why is this important?  It is not important from a legal standpoint, but as a practical matter, if you submit a Form 1, and the Title 2 firearm is still in the National Firearms Registry, the NFA Division will get an error, and return your Form 1, as they have not yet gotten around to doing the maintenance that is necessary from a practical standpoint.  Again, this is a process issue, and not a legal issue, but it is important to understand.

We will execute our end of the delisting process no matter if you advise us or not, but unless you let us know, then there is no way for you to know when you can file a Form 1.

THIS IS A SERIALIZED FIREARM.  It must ship to a Federal Firearms License holder.  No civilian exceptions.

Buying and shipping through Charlie’s is easy, but there is some information you need to know. Only a federally licensed firearms dealer may receive a firearm or federally regulated serialized item (like a receiver or suppressor). We cannot ship these items directly to you. Please follow these steps to process your transaction:

1)     Check your state laws to make sure the federally regulated item you want to purchase is legal in your state. Your FFL dealer should be able to give you all of the necessary information regarding your state specific laws. But, if we ship to your FFL, and there is a legal issue, we cannot accept a return. So please make sure that you know and follow your local and state laws.

2)     A quick google search will show you what Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealers are in your area. When you are ready to purchase, contact the FFL dealer you would like to use and get their shipping address. During the check-out, put YOUR address in the “billing” section and the FFL DEALER’S address in the “shipping” section. If you don’t know your FFLs address, that’s okay. You can send the information later.

3)     After check out, make sure to contact your FFL dealer to ensure they will receive your shipment for you (most do this for a small fee, but you should always double check).

4)     Have your dealer send us a copy of their FFL to FFL@CharliesCustomClones.com. Charlie’s does not reach to your FFL (MAKE THEM EARN THEIR FEE!!!)

5)     Be patient! In order to ensure we remain compliant with all federal laws, our compliance department is kept separate from our sales and operations team. Please allow a few days for our compliance officer to verify all of your dealer’s documents and ensure all federal laws are being observed. You should hear from our compliance department within 3-4 business days. If not, feel free to reach out for a status update.

That’s it! We try to make this process as simple as possible for our customers, but if you are unfamiliar the process or have any other questions, please visit our How to Buy a Firearm page for more details.

California and New York residents please, click here. The process may be different due to state specific laws.

NOTE: The free shipping option does not apply to full rifles, unless purchased with a riflescope.  If you choose free shipping at check-out, we will bill you for shipping later.
