Daniel Defense
All of Daniel Defense’s Barrels offer high performance and a long-lasting construction. All barrels are cold-hammer forged and made from 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium steel with a mil-spec heavy phosphate coating as well as a chrome lining for superior durability.
At Charlie's we like DD barrels, and we like 11.5" barrels, so here is a double-win. We love the Mk18, but managing a short 10.3" barrel can be difficult, dialing-in the right buffer weight for your shooting, altering if shooting suppressed, using heavier bullets. It can be done, but there are so many variables. We have found the 11-1/2" barrels to be very tolerant and forgiving of different rifle rounds, bullet weights and generally better shooting, with less gas in the face. And there is no mistaking that Daniel Defense makes a great barrel.
The Cold Hammer Forging of barrels is accomplished through intense hydraulic pressure applied at opposing angles by carbide steel hammers. During the hammering process, a mandrel is inserted into the bore while the carbide steel hammers shape the barrel around the mandrel creating the chamber, the lands, and the grooves. A hammer forge is a very big investment and a very big and heavy machine. When run with the right skilled technicians, hammer forged barrels create repeatable barrels all day long.
In addition to the aforementioned benefits, the Cold Hammer Forging process creates a defect free bore and the most consistent chamber possible. This is because the pounding of the barrel around the mandrel is repeated each time, creating the most uniform of barrels, compared to other rifling techniques. All Daniel Defense cold hammer forged barrels are made from start to finish inside DD's state-of-the-art facility located in Black Creek, GA. All cold hammer forged barrels feature a forged chamber and heavy phosphate exterior coating. They are all MP tested on-site. DD CHF barrels will prove themselves to be great shooters, and the chrome lining creates a longer lasting barrel.
Now, having done this much explaining on CHF process, we should say that having a CHF barrel does not mean you get the most accurate barrel. Don't get us wrong, you get a very good barrel. But the most accurate barrels are going to be using another technology. But, what you get is very predicable and repeatable barrels that are very good quality. You may not get an A+ in accuracy, but you are not going to get a C- either. Adding chrome lining gives you two things: increased longevity of the barrel (higher round counts) and increased corrosion resistance. Chrome lining is made for tactical and military barrels that get abused. Having given you this disclaimer, you are most likely not looking for a 1/2 MOA barrel with an 11-1/2" length anyway, but this barrel will impress you and give you outstanding performance and round count, and be a smooth shooter.
This stripped barrel assembly does not include gas block or muzzle device.
All NFA/ATF Rules Apply. You may not install this barrel in a rifle, or configure an upper receiver group with this barrel, if mounted to a lower receiver with a stock, unless it is a Registered SBR, Machine Gun, or Pistol. Possession of barrels shorter than 16" along with other parts which enable you to readily build a short barreled rifle may be considered possession of an NFA item. Please understand the law.
