The Colt LE6944CK Monolithic Upper Assembly feature's Colt's law enforcement fully unitized upper receiver group (URG). In addition to an uninterrupted full-length front rail, this upper receiver allows for a free-floated barrel. This LE6943CK Monolithic Upper Assembly also features a gas-block mounted front flip-up sight with bayonet lug and a flip-up rear sight. The barrel is Colt's standard 14.5" chrome lined M4 barrel and makes for one heck of a great rifle. The receiver is marked with a "C" which is a little unusual and reminiscent of the older style Colt. This upper receiver group has been largely used by special weapons teams in law enforcement, but is available for civilians as well.
This is a 14.5" barrel, and Charlie's features your choice of muzzle devices: a standard extended A2 and a Surefire Warcomp, both of which make great choices. A limited number of barrels are available with no flash hider. With a pinned and welded flash hider, this is a normal 16" rifle barrel, but without a flash hider, this would become a short barreled rifle, or SBR, and when attached to a rifle lower receiver, your rifle will be a short barreled rifle, and subject to NFA filing requirements.
A unique and outstanding feature is the folding front sight. Unlike many folding front sights, the Colt folding front sight base is pinned in place as opposed to screwed on. Now, there is an advantage and a disadvantage to screwing in place. Both A.R.M.S. and PRI offer a front site base with set screws that allow changes for extreme windage. But, Colt has pinned the front sight base, and we like that as being more durable and permanent. Due to the pinning process, the front sight base will not loosen and adversely affect accuracy or reliability. The benefit of the folding front sight is noticeable when using optics. The standard front sight base can interfere with the view of optics when mounted on the rail of a flat top upper receiver, and the operator has an improved field of view with the front sight folded. Most optics as well will allow co-witnessing between the back-up sights and the optic in case the battery was to fail, or the optic was to become damaged. The front sight base is equipped with a bayonet lug. The Colt folding front sight is robust and positive locking.
Note: The Colt LE6940 family of uppers are proprietary designed, with few user serviceable parts. Specific tools are required to remove the barrel nut and barrel. The gas system is unique and not designed to be replaced with mil-spec parts.
Charlie's provides near upper receivers, which have been test fired by Colt. Most upper receivers are take-offs from out of the box rifles. Others are purchased as upper receiver assemblies. Both are 100% identical. We do not ship in Colt factory box.
NFA Advisory: You are responsible for understanding the regulations and ensuring you can legally own this upper, as well as if you can install in to make a legal pistol. If installed as a rifle, you will need to comply with the Short Barrel Rifle requirements of the National Firearms Act. The NFA includes required registration and the payment of an NFA tax. In some cases, you might be deemed to have an SBR if you have a rifle lower and short barrel upper in close proximity.
